Figure Seriesआकृति श्रृंखलाquestions and answersप्रश्न और उत्तर
A figure series is a number series in disguise. Each figure is made from the previous one by the same change, and your job is to name that change and apply it once more to draw the missing figure.

How figure series worksआकृति श्रृंखला को समझिए
Most series use one of three changes: an element turns by a fixed angle (45°, 90° or 135°), an element moves a fixed number of places round the frame, or the number of elements grows by a fixed amount. Measure the change from the first figure to the second, then confirm it from the second to the third and the third to the fourth.
Harder series combine two changes, for example an arrow that turns while a dot moves round the corners. Treat each element as its own series. Two independent simple rules are much easier to see than one complicated one.
Turns and moves wrap round. Eight compass directions or eight places round a square behave like a clock with eight hours: after the eighth step you are back at the start. Counting in notches and wrapping past 7 back to 0 avoids most errors.
Each trick says when to use it, why it works and when it fails. Formula tricks are checked by code over their whole range.हर ट्रिक बताती है कि उसे कब इस्तेमाल करें, वह क्यों काम करती है और कब नहीं। सूत्र वाली ट्रिक्स को कोड से उनकी पूरी रेंज पर जाँचा गया है।

Count turns in 45° notches, modulo 8
Use it when:कब इस्तेमाल करें: An arrow or a pointer turns by the same angle in every figure, or a dot moves round eight places on a frame.
Number the directions 0–7 clockwise from “up” (each notch is 45°).
Turn per figure = k notches (90° = 2, 135° = 3; anticlockwise is negative).
Figure n + 1 points to (start + n × k) mod 8. A turn of k clockwise is the same as 8 − k anticlockwise.
Exampleउदाहरण
An arrow points up, then turns 135° clockwise each time. Where does the fifth figure point?
→ 0 + 4 × 3 = 12 ≡ 4 (mod 8): down.
Why it works, and when it failsयह क्यों काम करती है, और कब नहीं
Why:क्यों: Turning by 45° eight times is a full turn, so directions behave like the hours on an 8-hour clock. Adding notches and reducing modulo 8 is exactly repeated rotation.
Limits:सीमाएँ: Works for turns that are whole multiples of 45°. For 30° or 60° steps use 12 notches instead of 8.
Exam strategyपरीक्षा रणनीति
Track one element at a time
Use it when:कब इस्तेमाल करें: Several things change between figures and no single rule seems to fit.
Pick one element (the arrow, the dot, the number of circles) and write its value in each figure.
Find its constant step and predict the fifth value. Cross out every option that disagrees.
Repeat with the next element on the options that survive.
Exampleउदाहरण
An arrow turns 90° clockwise while a dot moves one corner anticlockwise.
→ Kill options with the arrow wrong first; then the dot picks the answer from the two left.
Why it works, and when it failsयह क्यों काम करती है, और कब नहीं
Why:क्यों: Exam series are built from independent simple rules. Each rule removes the options that break it, so two quick checks beat one hard look at the whole figure.
Limits:सीमाएँ: A few series alternate between two rules (odd and even figures). If no constant step appears, compare figures 1 and 3, and 2 and 4.

Example 1उदाहरण 1 · Figure series: what comes next? · Easyआसान
The four figures follow a rule. Which answer figure comes fifth, in place of the question mark?
A
B
C
D
Answer:उत्तर:C
Rule: the dot moves 1 place anticlockwise round the frame each time.
Figure 4 has a solid dot at the middle of the right edge.
Applying the rule once more gives a solid dot at the top-right corner: that is figure (C).
Example 2उदाहरण 2 · Figure series: what comes next? · Mediumमध्यम
The four figures follow a rule. Which answer figure comes fifth, in place of the question mark?
A
B
C
D
Answer:उत्तर:C
Rule: the dot moves 1 place anticlockwise round the frame each time.
Figure 4 has a solid dot at the middle of the left edge.
Applying the rule once more gives a solid dot at the bottom-left corner: that is figure (C).
Example 3उदाहरण 3 · Figure series: what comes next? · Hardकठिन
The four figures follow a rule. Which answer figure comes fifth, in place of the question mark?
A
B
C
D
Answer:उत्तर:D
Rule: the dot moves 1 place anticlockwise round the frame each time; and the number of circles goes up by 2 each time.
Figure 4 has a solid dot at the bottom-right corner, 7 small circles.
Applying the rule once more gives a solid dot at the middle of the right edge, 9 small circles: that is figure (D).
Example 4उदाहरण 4 · Figure series: what comes next? · Mediumमध्यम
The four figures follow a rule. Which answer figure comes fifth, in place of the question mark?
A
B
C
D
Answer:उत्तर:C
Rule: the number of circles goes up by 1 each time.
Figure 4 has 7 small circles.
Applying the rule once more gives 8 small circles: that is figure (C).
Example 5उदाहरण 5 · Figure series: what comes next? · Mediumमध्यम
The four figures follow a rule. Which answer figure comes fifth, in place of the question mark?
A
B
C
D
Answer:उत्तर:C
Rule: the dot moves 2 places clockwise round the frame each time.
Figure 4 has a solid dot at the middle of the left edge.
Applying the rule once more gives a solid dot at the middle of the top edge: that is figure (C).
Example 6उदाहरण 6 · Figure series: what comes next? · Mediumमध्यम
The four figures follow a rule. Which answer figure comes fifth, in place of the question mark?
A
B
C
D
Answer:उत्तर:A
Rule: the arrow turns 135° clockwise each time.
Figure 4 has an arrow pointing down-right.
Applying the rule once more gives an arrow pointing left: that is figure (A).
Common mistakesआम गलतियाँ
Applying only one of two rules: the arrow has turned correctly, but the dot has not moved.
Turning the right amount in the wrong direction (anticlockwise instead of clockwise).
Checking the change between only the first two figures; always confirm it on every pair.
Frequently asked questionsअक्सर पूछे जाने वाले प्रश्न
How do I find the rule in a figure series?
Look at one element at a time. Note its position or direction in each figure as a number, find the constant step, and check it holds across all four figures.
What if the rotation looks like 270° clockwise?
That is the same as 90° anticlockwise. Pick whichever is smaller; both give the same next figure.
Are figure series asked in SSC exams?
Yes. SSC CGL and CHSL papers usually have one or two non-verbal series questions, and many placement tests include them in the logical section.
