How dance forms of india worksभारत के नृत्य रूप को समझिए
The eight classical dances are Bharatanatyam (Tamil Nadu), Kathakali and Mohiniyattam (both Kerala), Kuchipudi (Andhra Pradesh, named after a village there), Odissi (Odisha), Manipuri (Manipur), Sattriya (Assam) and Kathak (north India, usually keyed as Uttar Pradesh).
Several names give the State away: Odissi and Odisha, Manipuri and Manipur. Kuchipudi is named after Kuchipudi village in Andhra Pradesh, and Sattriya comes from the sattras (monasteries) of Assam.
Folk dances come in pairs per State, and setters like to swap them: Bhangra and Giddha are both from Punjab, Ghoomar and Kalbelia from Rajasthan. Garba is Gujarat, Lavani Maharashtra, Bihu Assam.
From the North-East, Cheraw is Mizoram’s bamboo dance and Hojagiri comes from Tripura.
Each trick says when to use it, why it works and when it fails. Formula tricks are checked by code over their whole range.हर ट्रिक बताती है कि उसे कब इस्तेमाल करें, वह क्यों काम करती है और कब नहीं। सूत्र वाली ट्रिक्स को कोड से उनकी पूरी रेंज पर जाँचा गया है।

Frequently asked questionsअक्सर पूछे जाने वाले प्रश्न
How many classical dances does India have?
The Sangeet Natak Akademi recognises eight. The Ministry of Culture also lists Chhau, which is why some sources say nine.
Why is Chhau not in the questions?
It belongs to three States (Odisha, Jharkhand and West Bengal), so a one-State question would be unfair.
Where do these come from?
The Sangeet Natak Akademi’s list of classical dances and Ministry of Culture material for folk forms.
