Sade Sati: common questions
What is Sade Sati?
Sade Sati is the roughly seven and a half years when Saturn moves through the sign before your Moon sign, your Moon sign, and the sign after it. Everyone has it two or three times in a lifetime.
How are these dates worked out?
We follow Saturn’s sidereal (Lahiri) position sign by sign, find each sign change to the minute, and include the months when Saturn turns retrograde and briefly leaves a sign. For example, our engine puts Saturn’s entry into Kumbha on 29 April 2022, its retrograde return to Makara on 12 July 2022 and its re-entry on 17 January 2023, matching published panchangs.
What are the three phases?
Rising (Saturn in the 12th from your Moon), peak (over your Moon sign) and setting (in the 2nd from your Moon). Tradition links them with letting go, inner work and consolidation.
What is dhaiya?
Dhaiya, or small panoti, is about two and a half years of Saturn in the 4th (kantak) or 8th (ashtam) sign from your Moon. We show those dates too.
Do I need the birth time?
Only to be sure of the Moon sign. Sade Sati depends on the Moon sign, which usually stays the same all day; if the Moon changed sign on your birth date, the time decides it.
