Yogas in your kundli
A yoga is a special combination of planets in a birth chart. Some point to talent, wealth or status; a few, like Kemadruma, are often cancelled. Enter your birth details to see which classical yogas form in your kundli, why they form, and what softens or cancels them.

What each yoga means, and the rule we use
Gajakesari
Moon yoga
"Elephant and lion." Traditionally linked with respect, wisdom, a good name and the strength to bounce back after setbacks.
Rule: Jupiter (Guru) in a kendra (the 1st, 4th, 7th or 10th house) counted from the Moon. Classical texts add that Jupiter should not be debilitated (in its weakest sign), combust or in an enemy sign.
Keep in mind: Very common: about one chart in three has it. Its real strength depends on how well placed Jupiter is.
Budhaditya
Conjunction yoga
Sun (Aditya) with Mercury (Budh). Traditionally linked with a sharp, clear mind, good speech and skill with study and work.
Rule: Sun and Mercury in the same sign.
Keep in mind: Mercury is never far from the Sun, so this is common. It works best when Mercury is not combust (not within about 14 degrees of the Sun).
Ruchaka (Mahapurusha)
Panch Mahapurush yoga
Traditionally linked with courage, energy, leadership and a sporting or protective spirit. One of the five "great person" yogas.
Rule: Mars in its own or exaltation sign (uchcha, its strongest sign) and in a kendra (houses 1, 4, 7 or 10) from the lagna (ascendant).
Keep in mind: Gives the most in Mars's dasha (planet period). Softer if Mars is combust (too close to the Sun).
Bhadra (Mahapurusha)
Panch Mahapurush yoga
Traditionally linked with intelligence, fine speech, learning and business sense. One of the five "great person" yogas.
Rule: Mercury in its own or exaltation sign (uchcha, its strongest sign) and in a kendra (houses 1, 4, 7 or 10) from the lagna (ascendant).
Keep in mind: Gives the most in Mercury's dasha (planet period). Softer if Mercury is combust (too close to the Sun).
Hamsa (Mahapurusha)
Panch Mahapurush yoga
Traditionally linked with good values, wisdom, teaching and respect in society. One of the five "great person" yogas.
Rule: Jupiter in its own or exaltation sign (uchcha, its strongest sign) and in a kendra (houses 1, 4, 7 or 10) from the lagna (ascendant).
Keep in mind: Gives the most in Jupiter's dasha (planet period). Softer if Jupiter is combust (too close to the Sun).
Malavya (Mahapurusha)
Panch Mahapurush yoga
Traditionally linked with grace, comforts, a happy home life and artistic taste. One of the five "great person" yogas.
Rule: Venus in its own or exaltation sign (uchcha, its strongest sign) and in a kendra (houses 1, 4, 7 or 10) from the lagna (ascendant).
Keep in mind: Gives the most in Venus's dasha (planet period). Softer if Venus is combust (too close to the Sun).
Shasha (Mahapurusha)
Panch Mahapurush yoga
Traditionally linked with discipline, patience and authority earned through steady work. One of the five "great person" yogas.
Rule: Saturn in its own or exaltation sign (uchcha, its strongest sign) and in a kendra (houses 1, 4, 7 or 10) from the lagna (ascendant).
Keep in mind: Gives the most in Saturn's dasha (planet period). Softer if Saturn is combust (too close to the Sun).
Raj yoga
Lordship yoga
Traditionally linked with a rise in status, responsibility and recognition, earned through effort.
Rule: The lord (ruling planet) of a kendra house (1, 4, 7, 10) and the lord of a trikona house (1, 5, 9) are linked: in the same sign, in each other's signs (exchange), or looking at each other (mutual aspect).
Keep in mind: Most charts have at least one such link. It gives the most in the dashas of the linked planets, and less if they are weak or in the 6th, 8th or 12th house.
Yogakaraka planet
Lordship yoga
One planet rules both a kendra and a trikona, so it carries the Raj yoga by itself. Its years are usually good, productive years.
Rule: One planet rules a kendra (4, 7 or 10) and a trikona (5 or 9) from the lagna. Example: Saturn for Vrishabha and Tula lagna, Mars for Karka and Simha lagna.
Keep in mind: Depends only on the lagna, so many people share it. How much it gives depends on where the planet sits and its strength.
Dhana yoga
Wealth yoga
Traditionally linked with good channels for earning and saving money.
Rule: The lord of the 2nd house (savings) or the 11th house (income) is linked with the lord of the 1st, 5th or 9th house (self, merit, fortune): same sign, exchange or mutual aspect.
Keep in mind: Shows potential, not a bank balance. Effort, choices and the dasha decide how much of it you see.
Neechabhanga Raj yoga
Cancellation yoga
A planet in its weakest sign (neecha, debilitated) gets help that cancels the weakness. Traditionally this turns an early struggle into a later strength.
Rule: A debilitated planet, with any of: the lord of that sign or the lord of its exaltation sign in a kendra from the lagna or the Moon; the planet exalted in that sign in a kendra; the sign lord joining or looking at it; an exchange of signs; or the planet exalted in the navamsa (D9). Two or more of these make it strong.
Keep in mind: The planet still asks for patience in its own matters; the cancellation means it improves with time and effort.
Kemadruma yoga
Moon yoga
The Moon (mind) has no planet beside it on either side. Read calmly, it points to times of feeling alone or carrying things by yourself, and to building your own support.
Rule: No planet other than the Sun, Rahu and Ketu in the 2nd or 12th house from the Moon. It is cancelled by a planet with the Moon, a planet in a kendra from the Moon or the lagna, Jupiter's aspect on the Moon, or a strong Moon.
Keep in mind: It is cancelled in most charts. Even when it stands, it is no curse: friends, routine and steady habits are the classical answer.
Chandra-Mangala yoga
Conjunction yoga
Moon (mind) with Mars (drive). Traditionally linked with enterprise, quick decisions and earning through your own initiative.
Rule: Moon and Mars in the same sign. Some astrologers also count them facing each other (mutual 7th aspect), shown here as partial.
Keep in mind: Energy that needs a channel: works best with a calm routine.
Vipreet Raj yoga
Lordship yoga
"Reverse" Raj yoga: the lords of the hard houses (6th, 8th, 12th) sit in hard houses, so difficulties cancel each other. Traditionally, gains come after a struggle or from unexpected turns.
Rule: The lord of the 6th, 8th or 12th house placed in the 6th, 8th or 12th: Harsha (6th lord), Sarala (8th lord), Vimala (12th lord). Not counted when that planet also rules the lagna.
Keep in mind: Its results show mostly in the dasha of that planet, often after a testing phase.
Adhi yoga
Moon yoga
The gentle planets (Mercury, Jupiter, Venus) surround the Moon from the 6th, 7th and 8th. Traditionally linked with support from others, a comfortable position and a respected role.
Rule: Mercury, Jupiter and Venus in the 6th, 7th or 8th house from the Moon. All three: full yoga; two: the middle kind (shown as partial).
Keep in mind: Stronger when those planets are not combust or debilitated.
How to check the yogas in your kundli
- Enter the birth date, time and place. If the time is not known, tick the box: the Moon-based yogas are still checked.
- Press the button. The chart and every yoga are worked out on your phone; nothing is uploaded.
- Read each card: present, partly formed or cancelled, the planets and houses that form it, and what to keep in mind.
We check each yoga by its classical rule, using whole-sign houses from the lagna (Lahiri ayanamsa). A yoga that is weakened, for example by a combust or debilitated planet, is shown as partly formed. Kemadruma is shown with its cancellations first, because most charts have at least one.
Yogas are one layer of a kundli. They give their results mostly in the dasha of the planets that form them, so the same yoga can feel quiet for years and strong in its period.
Yogas in kundli: common questions
What is a yoga in a kundli?
A yoga is a combination of planets, for example two planets in one sign or a planet in a strong house, that classical texts link with a certain result. Gajakesari, Raj yoga and Panch Mahapurush yoga are well known.
Is Raj yoga rare?
No. The basic Raj yoga, a kendra lord linked with a trikona lord, appears in most charts. Its strength depends on how well the planets are placed and which dasha is running.
Is Kemadruma yoga bad?
It is no curse. It is cancelled in most charts, for example by a planet in a kendra from the Moon or by Jupiter's aspect. Even when it stands, it is read as a call to build your own support: friends, routine and steady habits.
Can I check yogas without a birth time?
Partly. Gajakesari, Budhaditya, Chandra-Mangal, Adhi, Kemadruma and Neechabhanga can be checked from the Moon. Yogas that need the lagna (Panch Mahapurush, Raj, Dhana, Vipreet Raj) are skipped, and we say so.
What does "partly formed" mean?
The basic rule is met, but a classical condition weakens it: for example the planet is combust (too close to the Sun) or debilitated, or only two of three planets are in place.
Are my birth details uploaded?
No. The chart and the yogas are worked out in your browser. Nothing is sent to us or saved unless you choose to save your profile on this device.
