What is a relieving letter?
This is the standard Indian relieving letter addressed to the employee: company name and address at the top, reference number and date, a subject line, acceptance of the resignation, the relieving date, the period of service and last designation, whether the full and final settlement is completed or will be processed, a confirmation of no dues and handover, and the authorised signatory.
When do you need a relieving letter?
- An employee has served the notice period and is leaving.
- A former employee needs the letter for joining a new company or for background verification.
- A small business wants to give a departing staff member a proper exit letter.

- The employee’s resignation letter and its date.
- Joining date, last designation and the agreed relieving date.
- Confirmation from finance and admin that the handover and dues are clear.

Questions people ask
What is the difference between a relieving letter and an experience letter?
A relieving letter confirms that the resignation was accepted and the employee was relieved on a date, with dues cleared. An experience letter describes the period of service and the role. Use the experience letter draft for the second one.
Can I issue it before the full and final settlement?
Yes. Choose "Will be processed" and the letter says the settlement will be done as per company policy. Make sure the no dues confirmation is true before you sign.
Should the letter be on letterhead?
Yes. Download the Word file and print it on the company letterhead, then sign it and add the seal if you use one.
Can I make it in Hindi?
Yes. Switch the document language to Hindi and the whole letter is written in Hindi.
Is my data safe?
Yes. Everything is made on your device, in your browser. Nothing you type is uploaded, and the draft stays only on this device until you clear it.
