Steps

  1. Decide what you are changing. A document refresh (re-submitting proof of identity and address) can be done free on myAadhaar. Address and mobile can be changed in the Aadhaar App. Name, date of birth, gender and biometrics need an Aadhaar Seva Kendra or enrolment centre.
  2. For the free document update: log in to myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in with the OTP on your Aadhaar-linked mobile, choose Document Update, check your details and upload one proof of identity and one proof of address.
  3. For address or mobile in the Aadhaar App: log in with your 6-digit PIN, open Services, choose Address Update or Mobile Update, upload the document if asked, complete Face Authentication and pay the fee shown.
  4. For a centre visit: book a slot at bookappointment.uidai.gov.in (or walk in), carry the original documents, give your biometrics, check the screen carefully before you confirm, and pay at the counter.
  5. Keep the acknowledgement slip with the URN (Update Request Number). Track it under Check Enrolment and Update Status on myAadhaar.
  6. Once updated, download the new e-Aadhaar from myAadhaar. A PVC card can be ordered for ₹50.

Documents

  • Your Aadhaar number (and the mobile linked to it, for OTP)
  • Proof of address in your name, for an address change: for example passport, ration card, voter ID, driving licence, bank passbook with photo, or a bank statement not older than 3 months
  • Proof of identity with your name and photo, for a name change or document refresh
  • For a name change after marriage: marriage certificate (with an older photo ID if the certificate has no photo)
  • Originals at the centre. Check the full UIDAI list for your case

How long it takes

  • UIDAI says mobile number and address updates done through the Aadhaar App take up to 30 days to process.

Common mistakes

  • Paying an agent for the free myAadhaar document update. It is free on the official site till 14 June 2027.
  • Uploading a blurry or cropped document. The request is rejected and UIDAI does not refund the fee for rejected requests.
  • Trying to add a mobile number for the first time in the app. A new mobile number has to be registered at an Aadhaar Seva Kendra.
  • Not checking spelling on the centre screen before giving the final fingerprint.
  • Sharing the OTP or the full Aadhaar number with callers. UIDAI never asks for an OTP on the phone.
