Steps
Search your name first on electoralsearch.eci.gov.in. If you are already on the roll, do not apply again with Form 6.
Log in to voters.eci.gov.in (or the Voter Helpline app) with your mobile number and OTP.
Choose the right form: Form 6 for a new registration, Form 8 for shifting, correction, replacement card or disability marking.
Fill details in English and your state language, upload a recent colour photo with a white background, and upload proof of age and address.
Submit and note the reference number. A Booth Level Officer may visit to verify.
Track the status with the reference number. After approval, the card is sent to your address by speed post, and you can download the e-EPIC from the portal.

Common mistakes
Filing Form 6 when you are already registered somewhere else. Shifting is Form 8; being on two rolls is an offence.
Filling the name only in one language. The system transliterates it and that can cause spelling mistakes.
Uploading a selfie or a photo with a coloured background.
Giving false details in the declaration; it is punishable under the Representation of the People Act.
