This is a general format to save you time, not legal advice. Read every clause, change what does not fit your situation, and for a dispute or a large amount, consult a lawyer.

What is an NOC letter?

This page makes three common NOCs. An employer NOC confirms that the employee works with the company and that it has no objection to higher studies, a passport, a visa or a new job. A landlord NOC lets a tenant use the rented address as proof of address, apply for electricity, gas or internet, or register a business there. A vehicle NOC records the sale or transfer of a vehicle and the owner’s consent to transfer the registration.

When do you need an NOC letter?

  • Your employer must give you an NOC for a passport, visa, or admission to a course.
  • A tenant needs the landlord’s consent for an address proof, a new electricity, gas or broadband connection, or GST or shop registration.
  • You are selling a car or two-wheeler and the buyer wants a signed NOC with the transfer papers.
  • An office or bank asks for a "no objection" letter from the owner of a property or vehicle.

Documents needed for an NOC letter

  • Employer NOC: company letterhead (print on it), employee details and joining date, and the signatory’s name.
  • Landlord NOC: the landlord’s ID and ownership proof (such as a property tax receipt or electricity bill), and the rent agreement.
  • Vehicle NOC: the registration certificate (RC), insurance, PUC, and the financier’s NOC if there was a loan.

How to make an NOC letter: stamp paper, signing, submitting

  1. Choose who is giving the NOC: employer, landlord or vehicle owner. The form shows only the fields for that kind.
  2. Fill in the details of the person giving the NOC and the person receiving it.
  3. Pick the purpose. The letter states exactly what there is no objection to.
  4. Download Word to print on a letterhead, or PDF to print as it is. Switch to Hindi if needed.
  5. Sign it (with the company seal for an employer NOC) and give the original to the person who needs it. Keep a copy.

Common mistakes

  • Writing a vague purpose. Offices often reject an NOC that does not say what it is for.
  • Employer NOC not on the company letterhead or without the signatory’s name and designation.
  • Landlord NOC that does not match the name and address in the rent agreement.
  • Vehicle NOC without the registration number or with a wrong chassis or engine number. Copy them from the RC.

Questions people ask

Does a landlord NOC give the tenant any right in the property?

No. The letter says so in plain words: it is only for the stated purpose and does not create any right, title or interest in the property, nor change the tenancy terms.

Is the vehicle NOC enough to transfer ownership?

No. Transfer of ownership is done at the RTO or on the Parivahan website with the forms and documents the RTO asks for. This NOC is a signed statement from the owner that supports the transfer; check the current list of documents with your RTO.

Should an employer NOC be on letterhead?

Yes. Download the Word file and print it on the company letterhead, or paste the text into your letterhead template. It should carry the signatory’s name, designation and the company seal if you use one.

Can I make the NOC in Hindi?

Yes. Switch the document language to Hindi and the whole certificate, including the heading and purpose, is written in Hindi.
