Sade Sati 2026 to 2028: Dates for Every Rashi, Calculated
What is Sade Sati, and how are these dates calculated?
Sade Sati (seven and a half) is the period when Saturn moves through three signs: the 12th from your Moon sign, your Moon sign itself, and the 2nd from it. Saturn spends about two and a half years in each sign, so the whole stretch lasts about seven and a half years. Its three phases are often called rising, peak and setting.
We did not copy these dates from another calendar. They come from our own engine: Saturn’s sidereal position (Lahiri ayanamsa) is sampled every few days and each sign change is found to within about a minute, then converted to Indian Standard Time. Other panchangs may differ by a day because of a slightly different ayanamsa or time convention.

| Date (IST) | Saturn moves into |
|---|---|
| 29 Mar 2025 | Meena (Pisces) |
| 3 Jun 2027 | Mesha (Aries) |
| 20 Oct 2027 | Back into Meena (retrograde) |
| 23 Feb 2028 | Mesha again |
| 8 Aug 2029 | Vrishabha (Taurus) |
| 5 Oct 2029 | Back into Mesha (retrograde) |
| 17 Apr 2030 | Vrishabha again |
The back-and-forth in 2027 to 2028 matters: when Saturn turns retrograde it slips back into the previous sign for a few months, briefly extending one rashi’s phase and pausing the next one’s.

Kumbh rashi ki Sade Sati kab khatam hogi?
For Kumbha, Saturn in Meena is the last (setting) phase. Saturn first leaves Meena on 3 June 2027, so many people say Kumbha’s Sade Sati ends then. But Saturn turns retrograde and re-enters Meena from 20 October 2027 to 23 February 2028. Counting that stretch, which is how our calculator works, Kumbha’s Sade Sati is fully over on 23 February 2028.
TipIf you see 3 June 2027 in one place and 23 February 2028 in another, both are describing the same sky. One counts the first exit; the other counts the final exit after the retrograde loop.
Shani dhaiya (small panoti) in 2026 to 2028
Shani dhaiya, or small panoti, is the roughly two and a half years when Saturn is in the 4th (kantak) or 8th (ashtam) sign from your Moon sign. From our engine:
- Simha (Leo): ashtam dhaiya from 29 Mar 2025 until 23 Feb 2028.
- Dhanu (Sagittarius): kantak dhaiya from 29 Mar 2025 until 23 Feb 2028.
- Kanya (Virgo): ashtam dhaiya from 3 Jun 2027 until 17 Apr 2030.
- Makara (Capricorn): kantak dhaiya from 3 Jun 2027 until 17 Apr 2030.

Tradition reads Sade Sati as a time of hard work, responsibility and slower results, and also of maturity. It is not a sentence of bad luck. Many people start careers, marry and build homes during it.
Which phase of Sade Sati is considered the hardest?
Opinions differ between traditions. Many astrologers treat the middle (peak) phase, when Saturn transits the Moon sign itself, as the most demanding, because the Moon stands for the mind. Others say the rising phase brings the biggest changes in work and expenses, and the setting phase touches family and finances. Most also say the effect depends on the whole chart: Saturn’s own placement at birth, the running dasha, and whether Saturn is a friendly planet for your lagna.
For people who follow the tradition, common practices during Sade Sati are simple and free: discipline in routine, honesty in dealings, patience with delays, service to elders and the needy, and prayers on Saturdays if that is part of your faith. None of these require paying anyone. If you are told that only an expensive ritual can protect you, that claim is not supported by the classical texts, and certainly not by science.
TipSade Sati dates depend only on your Moon sign, so everyone with the same rashi shares the same dates. A daily rashifal built on real transits can show how the slower Saturn period sits alongside faster planets.
Frequently asked questions
Which rashis have Sade Sati in 2027?
Kumbha (final phase, until 23 Feb 2028 counting the retrograde return), Meena and Mesha all through 2027, and Vrishabha from 3 Jun 2027, paused while Saturn is back in Meena from 20 Oct 2027 to 23 Feb 2028.
When does Sade Sati start for Vrishabha rashi?
On 3 June 2027, when Saturn enters Mesha, the 12th sign from Vrishabha. Saturn briefly returns to Meena from 20 Oct 2027 to 23 Feb 2028, then the Sade Sati continues until 13 July 2034.
Why do Sade Sati dates differ between websites?
Mostly because of the ayanamsa (we use Lahiri), the time zone, and whether a short retrograde return is counted. These can shift a date by a day or decide between a first and a final exit.
Is Sade Sati based on Moon sign or Sun sign?
Moon sign. In Indian astrology your rashi is the sign the Moon was in at birth, and Sade Sati is counted from that sign.
Should I postpone important plans during Sade Sati?
Not because of Sade Sati alone. It is a traditional belief, and many people do well during it. Make decisions on practical grounds and, if you wish, discuss timing with someone you trust.
