Tamil and Telugu wedding invitation wording with samples
South Indian wedding invitations are built around one moment, the muhurtham, usually early in the morning in Tamil Nadu and often late at night in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Both traditions open with a short invocation, name the couple with formal honorifics and ask guests to come with their whole family. This guide explains the Tamil அழைப்பிதழ் and the Telugu శుభలేఖ and gives complete samples.

The Tamil திருமண அழைப்பிதழ்
Invocation: many Tamil cards begin with “ஸ்ரீ ராம ஜெயம்”, “சுப முகூர்த்தம்”, or the name of the family deity or temple, such as a line to Murugan or Venkatachalapathy.
Opening: the classic opening phrase is “நிகழும் மங்களகரமான …”, followed by the Tamil year, month and date, then the muhurtham window, for example “காலை 7.30 மணி முதல் 9.00 மணிக்குள்”.
The couple: the bride is “செல்வி” and the groom “செல்வன்” (or the older “சௌ.” and “சிரஞ்சீவி”), each with their parents’ names. The request asks guests to come “சுற்றம் சூழ”, surrounded by their relatives, and bless the couple.
Functions: நிச்சயதார்த்தம் (engagement), often a வரவேற்பு (reception) on the evening before the wedding, and the முகூர்த்தம் the next morning.

The Telugu శుభలేఖ
Invocation: “శ్రీరస్తు శుభమస్తు అవిఘ్నమస్తు”, may there be prosperity, auspiciousness and no obstacles, is the most familiar opening line of a Telugu wedding card, which is itself called a శుభలేఖ (auspicious letter).
The couple: the bride is written as చి.ల.సౌ. (చిరంజీవి లక్ష్మీ సౌభాగ్యవతి) and the groom as చి. (చిరంజీవి), each with parents’ names. The body says the elders have fixed the wedding at the సుముహూర్తం, and asks guests to come “సకుటుంబ సపరివార సమేతంగా”.
Functions: పెళ్లికూతురు and పెళ్లికొడుకు ceremonies (when the bride and groom are dressed and blessed), the సుముహూర్తం with జీలకర్ర-బెల్లం and తలంబ్రాలు, and a reception. The card ends with “ఇట్లు” and the names of the family.

Putting the wording on an invite website
Use the invocation as the blessing line, the body as the welcome note, and each function, நிச்சயதார்த்தம், வரவேற்பு, முகூர்த்தம் or పెళ్లికూతురు, సుముహూర్తం, reception, as its own function with a map. Write the Tamil or Telugu text in the second-language boxes; guests then see a toggle labelled தமிழ் or తెలుగు next to English, and the countdown ends at the muhurtham.
