Pongal is celebrated over four days in mid-January, Bhogi, Thai Pongal, Mattu Pongal and Kaanum Pongal. On Thai Pongal morning, families draw a large kolam, tie turmeric plants and sugarcane at the entrance and cook pongal in a new pot until it boils over, with everyone calling out “Pongalo Pongal!”. The time for pongal vaithal is usually in the early morning according to the family’s custom. Lunch on a banana leaf follows, and on Mattu Pongal the cattle are decorated and honoured, especially in villages.
This free invite page lets you write the whole invitation in Tamil, the guest toggle then reads தமிழ், with English for friends who do not read the script. List pongal vaithal, the lunch and Mattu Pongal on their own days and times, each with a Google Maps button. Guests reply with how many will come for lunch, and you can send personal links to relatives in other cities who may be planning to travel home for the festival.
