Seemantham, also called srimantham or seemantonnayanam, is held for a first pregnancy, usually in the fifth, seventh or eighth month on a day the family purohit picks. The mother-to-be sits in a new silk saree while elders apply turmeric and kumkum, married women slide glass bangles on her wrists, and the puja asks for a safe delivery. In many Telugu and Kannada homes it is followed by a lunch on banana leaves with the expectant mother’s favourite dishes.
Because the date depends on the muhurtham and the month of pregnancy, invitations often go out with only a week or two of notice. This free invite page lists the puja, the bangle ceremony and the lunch with their own times, gives relatives a Google Maps button to the function hall or the family home, and lets them reply with how many are coming. The Hindi-English toggle helps grandparents, and you can write the second language in Telugu or Kannada if you prefer.
