General information, not medical advice. Please consult a doctor.
Before you start
- ABHA is voluntary. You do not need it to get treatment, and no hospital can refuse you care for not having one.
- For the Aadhaar route, your Aadhaar must be linked to a mobile number that receives the OTP. Without that, visit a hospital or clinic that takes part in ABDM.
- Use only abha.abdm.gov.in or the ABHA app by the National Health Authority. Making ABHA is free; nobody should charge you.
- IndiaDigital does not collect any of your details. Every step happens on the official portal.
Questions people ask
What is the difference between ABHA number and ABHA address?
The ABHA number is a random 14-digit ID created after Aadhaar or licence verification. The ABHA address is a username you choose, like name@abdm, which you use to log in to health apps and share records.
Can I make ABHA without Aadhaar?
Yes. Choose the driving licence option on the portal to get an enrolment number, then take your licence to a nearby ABDM participating facility. Staff there verify it and your ABHA number is created.
Can anyone see my health records?
No one can pull your records without your consent. A doctor or app sends a request, you approve it, and you choose what to share and for how long. You can also revoke the consent later.
How do I delete or pause my ABHA?
Log in to the ABHA portal, open Profile and choose "Delete or Deactivate". Deactivating is temporary. Deleting is permanent and removes the ABHA number with its demographic details.
Who can I call for help?
The ABDM helpline is toll-free 1800-11-4477 or 14477. You can also email abdm@nha.gov.in.
