How the dates are worked out
- Times are worked out on your phone from the Sun’s position (astronomy-engine), using the PrayTimes.org conventions. They match the PrayTimes reference algorithm within a minute.
- Fajr and Isha: the Sun 18 degrees below the horizon (Karachi). Zuhr: true noon. Asr: shadow twice the object (Hanafi) or once (Shafi). Maghrib: sunset.
- Many masjids give the azan a few minutes after these times and set jamaat later still. Follow your masjid’s timetable for jamaat.
- Your city and settings stay on this phone. Location, if you allow it, is used only here.
Questions people ask
Which method should I choose in India?
Most masjids in India use the University of Islamic Sciences, Karachi angles (18 degrees) with Hanafi Asr, which is our default. Ahl-e-Hadith and Shafi masjids (common in Kerala and coastal Karnataka) use Shafi Asr.
Why is my masjid’s time a few minutes different?
Masjids often add a few minutes of caution (ihtiyat) to Zuhr and Maghrib, and use their own printed timetable. A difference of 2 to 5 minutes is normal.
How does the Qibla compass work?
We work out the great-circle direction from your place to the Kaaba. On a phone with a compass, allow motion access and hold the phone flat; keep it away from metal and magnets.
