How we score it
- Words are matched one by one with the passage, so a single missed word does not spoil everything after it. The part of the passage you did not reach is not counted.
- Full mistakes (SSC guidelines): a word left out, a wrong or extra word, a spelling error, a repeated word, an incomplete word. Half mistakes: spacing, capital or small letter (English only), punctuation, two words swapped.
- SSC DEST asks for 8,000 correct key depressions per hour in 15 minutes (15,000 for the C&AG post). The SSC typing test asks for 35 words per minute in English or 30 in Hindi in 10 minutes, where one word is 5 key depressions.
- CPCT uses net words per minute: correct words divided by the minutes you took. You pass at 30 NWPM in English and 20 NWPM in Hindi; the scaled score table from the CPCT rule book is shown with your result.
- Remington is typed with the same keys as a Krutidev 010 typewriter and shown in Unicode. Inscript follows the Microsoft Hindi Inscript layout. No Hindi keyboard needs to be installed.
- Everything runs in your browser. Your scores are saved only on this device.
Questions people ask
Is backspace allowed in SSC and CPCT typing tests?
Yes. SSC lets candidates revise and correct their text within the time, and CPCT uses unrestricted typing where you can delete and retype. You can switch backspace off here to build accuracy.
Which Hindi font does SSC use for the typing test?
The SSC CHSL 2026 notice says Hindi typing must be done in the Mangal font, which is Unicode. Check the layouts offered at your centre (Inscript or Remington GAIL) in your admit card instructions.
How is the error percentage worked out?
Here it is mistakes (full mistakes plus half of the half mistakes) divided by the passage words you reached, to two decimals. SSC computes errors to two decimals and publishes category cut-offs with each result; in the CHSL 2024 result it was 7% (UR) and 10% (others) for typing and 5% and 7% for DEST.
Are the passages from real exam papers?
No. Every passage was written for IndiaDigital in the exam style, with numbers and punctuation, so you can practise freely.
