RC, DL and challan status on the official sites

We do not look up vehicles or licences. These are the official Parivahan services that do, with the steps.

RC status and vehicle detailsIs my RC ready? Check details before buying a used vehicle
  1. Open Vahan citizen services and choose your state and RTO.

  2. Use Know your application status with the application number, or Vehicle related services for RC print, address change and NOC.

  3. For a used vehicle, also ask the seller for the RC, insurance, PUC and NOC from the financier if there was a loan.

Driving licence statusLearner or permanent licence, renewal

  3. For a licence you already have, use Services on driving licence for renewal, duplicate or address change.

Check and pay challansPending fines on your vehicle or licence
  1. Open echallan.parivahan.gov.in yourself (do not trust SMS links).

  2. Choose Check online services, then search by challan number, vehicle number or DL number.

  3. Pay online if it is a spot challan. If it went to court, pay on Virtual Courts or appear in court.

Tip: Think the challan is wrong? Most state traffic police let you contest it on their portal or at the traffic court.

Carry RC and DL on your phoneShow them at a checkpoint
  1. Open DigiLocker or mParivahan and sign in with your mobile number.

  2. Fetch your driving licence and registration certificate from Issued documents.

  3. These count as originals under CMVR rule 139. A photo or scan in your gallery does not.

How it works

  • All three are free on Parivahan. Third-party apps that show owner details are not official.
  • A digital RC or DL in DigiLocker or mParivahan is valid like the original (CMVR rule 139).

Questions people ask

Is it safe to pay a challan from an SMS link?

Only if the link opens echallan.parivahan.gov.in. Fake challan SMS with look-alike sites are common. When in doubt, open the site yourself and type the challan number.

My RC shows the old address. What now?

Apply for change of address on Vahan (Form 33). If you moved to another state for more than 12 months, you need an NOC and re-registration.
