PRACTICAL GUIDE

Open HEIC photos and TIFF scans with local image conversion

A saved iPhone photo can use HEIC, and a scanned document can use TIFF. These formats may need a dedicated decoder in a browser. IndiaDigital loads its decoder only when you process a chosen file and exports the first image or scan page as JPEG or PNG.

Open HEIC to JPEG or PNG ↗

Take it step by step

  1. Choose the HEIC or TIFF converter for the saved file. A synthetic solid-colour example is available without providing a personal photo.
  2. Select JPEG for general photo sharing, or PNG for a lossless pixel export. PNG can be considerably larger.
  3. Process the file. Decoding runs in a dedicated worker, with a 20 MB input and 16-million-pixel decoded-image limit.
  4. Download the export, check orientation and colour, then use resize/crop, brightness or metadata cleaning tools as needed.
A CONCRETE EXAMPLE

A situation to try.

The supplied 64 × 48 example is a synthetic rose-colour image. Tests decode both HEIC and LZW-compressed TIFF and check dimensions and pixel values. These small fixtures do not represent every phone or scanner.

Use the tool’s synthetic example first where available. The example here explains a decision; it is not a reported benchmark result.

Before you call it done.

  • Keep the original HEIC if you need HDR, depth information or a Live Photo companion.
  • Multi-page TIFF exports only its first page in this release.
  • Metadata and original colour profiles are not retained.
  • Use rotate/flip for orientation corrections and inspect before sharing.

Know the limits.

Some HEIF brands, high-bit-depth colour workflows and TIFF compression variants may fail. Decoder tests do not certify browser worker delivery or all devices. Code is self-hosted; chosen image bytes are not uploaded.

This tool’s current boundary: Only the first image is exported. HDR depth, auxiliary images, metadata and original colour profiles are not preserved. Maximum 16 million pixels and 20 MB input.

Evidence and scope

Technical source guidance and task-specific output checks. These do not establish that every file, browser or device passes.

Use the checks above on your own exported result. A source explains the format or mechanism; it is not proof that this export preserved every feature.
