How it works
- Saral mode turns on easy reading (bigger text and buttons), stronger colours and a bar at the bottom of every page with Home, Speak and Listen.
- Bolo listens on your phone. Where the browser cannot do that, it uses a small speech model that downloads once from IndiaDigital and then works offline.
- Your words are matched with IndiaDigital pages on your phone, and the answer is spoken back. No voice or text is sent to anyone.
- Light voice uses your phone's own voice and downloads nothing. Natural voice sounds better and needs a one-time download of about 95 MB.
- Turn Saral mode off from the Aa button at the top of any page, or from this page.
Questions people ask
Who should switch this on?
Anyone who finds websites crowded or small: grandparents, people with weak eyesight, people who prefer to speak rather than type. A family member can switch it on once.
Does Bolo send my voice to Google or anyone else?
No. Bolo uses only speech recognition that runs on your phone. If your browser cannot do that, it uses a speech model from IndiaDigital that runs on the phone itself.
My phone is old. Will it work?
Choose Light voice. It uses the voice already on your phone and the smallest speech model. Everything else is the normal site in bigger size.
Why did the Listen button not appear?
Your phone has no voice for this language installed. On Android, add one in Settings, then Text-to-speech, then Install voice data. Or use the Natural voice here.
