What it costs you (2026 rules)
- JoSAA seat acceptance fee
- ₹30,000. Paid once when you accept a seat; all but ₹5,000 counts towards the institute fee. Withdraw later and ₹7,000 is kept.
- NIT+ partial admission fee
- ₹45,000. Only for NIT, IIIT and GFTI seats, after the last JoSAA round; it also counts towards the fee.
- IIT tuition
- ₹2,00,000 a year
- NIT tuition
- ₹1,25,000 a year
- First semester, all in (before hostel and mess)
- IIT Bombay ₹1,34,150, NIT Trichy ₹1,25,550. This includes one-time fees and refundable deposits. An income waiver is given after you submit the certificate.
Waiver at IITs and NITs: family income below ₹1 lakh pays no tuition; ₹1 to 5 lakh pays one third. You need a family income certificate; an EWS certificate alone does not count.
IIITs and GFTIs set their own fees and waivers: check the institute website.Data: JoSAA opening and closing ranks, 2026 (rounds 1 to 5), 2025 (rounds 1 to 6), 2024 (rounds 1 to 5). CSAB special rounds are not included. IIT and IISc use JEE Advanced ranks; NIT+ institutes use JEE Main ranks.
How the lanes work
- For each program we take the final closing rank of every year we have (the last round that filled the seat).
- Safe: your rank is at least 10% better than the closing rank in every one of those years. Likely: you are within the latest (or the usual) closing rank. Reach: you are up to 15% past the best year, which sometimes works out in later rounds.
- JoSAA: category seats use your category rank, PwD seats your PwD rank, IITs and IISc your JEE Advanced rank. Home State and Other State seats at NITs follow your state code of eligibility.
- NEET UG: the closing rank of a round is the highest All India rank allotted that seat group in that round, worked out from the official MCC allotment lists.
- Only the files for your category load (a few small files). Your ranks are saved only in this browser.
Questions people ask
Is this a guarantee of admission?
No. It is last three years of official data. Seats, the number of candidates and choices change every year. Use the lanes to plan, and fill choices in your true order of preference on the official portal.
Which rank should I enter for JoSAA?
Your JEE Main common rank list (CRL) rank. If you are EWS, OBC-NCL, SC or ST also enter your category rank, because category seats are filled by category rank. Add your JEE Advanced ranks to see IITs and IISc.
Why does a college show "Home State"?
NITs keep half their seats for students of their own state. Your home state is the state code of eligibility JoSAA gives you, usually the state where you passed class 12.
Why is the 85% state quota for NEET missing?
Those seats are filled by each state’s own counselling, not MCC. This tool covers MCC All India counselling: 15% All India quota of government colleges, central institutes like AIIMS and JIPMER, deemed universities, Delhi University, IP University and ESI quotas.
What does P after a rank mean?
It is a rank on the preparatory course rank list used for some reserved PwD seats at IITs. Those seats are not put in a lane.
