Show solution
  1. 3 gaps × 30° = 90°.
  2. Smaller angle = 90°.

Answer: 90

Example 2 · level 2

Fatima faces West and turns anticlockwise until facing East. Through how many degrees did they turn?

Show solution
  1. 2 right angles = 2 × 90° = 180°.

Answer: 180

Example 3 · level 3

What is the smaller angle between the hour hand and the minute hand of a clock at 2:50?

Show solution
  1. Hour hand: 2 × 30 + 50 × 0.5 = 85° from 12.
  2. Minute hand: 50 × 6 = 300° from 12.
  3. Difference = 215°; smaller angle = 360 − 215 = 145°.
