UPI, OTP & KYC scamsUPI, OTP और KYC ठगी
The scammer’s script, and the three things you never share
Every scam follows a script
Panic or greed first, then a trusted name, then one rushed action. Once you see the script, you can stop it at any step: pause, hang up, and check on your own.
- Urgency: “blocked today”, “last chance”
- Authority: bank, police, KYC desk
- Action: OTP, PIN, link, app, QR
Summary
Most money frauds in India follow one script: create panic or greed, pretend to be someone you trust (a bank, KYC desk, electricity office, police, a buyer on OLX), then rush you into one action. That action is almost always sharing an OTP, entering your UPI PIN, scanning a QR code, clicking a link or installing a screen-sharing app.
Remember three rules. An OTP is your signature: no bank, government office or company will ever ask you for it. The UPI PIN is only for sending money: you never need it, or a QR scan, to receive money. And KYC is updated only through your branch, official app or net banking, never through a link in an SMS or a call from a mobile number.
