Read the owner: the part just before the first single “/”
Find the owner of the address
Look for the first single “/” after the “https://”. The name just before it is the owner. Read that part from right to left: .gov.in, then the department name.
Summary
A phishing link takes you to a page that looks exactly like your bank, the income tax portal or a delivery company, so that you type your password, card number or OTP into it. The design can be copied perfectly; the web address cannot. Find the owner: the name just before the first single “/”. For Indian government sites it usually ends in .gov.in or .nic.in. Everything to the left of the owner, like “uidai.gov.in.” in “uidai.gov.in.update-kyc.co”, is decoration. मालिक के बाईं ओर का सब कुछ, जैसे “uidai.gov.in.update-kyc.co” में “uidai.gov.in.”, सिर्फ़ सजावट है।
The padlock only means the connection is encrypted; scam sites have padlocks too. On WhatsApp, “Forwarded many times”, a free offer for everyone, a deadline and “share with 10 groups” are signs of a hoax. For claims about government schemes, check the official site or PIB Fact Check before you forward.
