PDF to JPG: Turn PDF Pages Into Images for WhatsApp and Slides
Convert PDF pages to JPG or PNG images
- Decide whether you need whole pages as pictures or just the photos inside the PDF.
- For whole pages, open PDF to JPG and PNG on IndiaDigital and add your PDF.
- Choose JPG for photos and smaller files, or PNG for text, charts and diagrams.
- Pick a resolution that suits where the image is going: lower for chat, higher for print or zooming.
- Convert and download the images, then open one to check that small text is readable.
- For original pictures inside the PDF, use Extract embedded images instead.
Why turn a PDF into images
PDFs are perfect for documents, but there are many places where a picture works better. A PDF sent on WhatsApp shows up as a file that people have to tap, download and open. An image appears right in the chat. Instagram, LinkedIn posts and most social platforms want images, not documents. Slides, websites and messaging apps all handle pictures more smoothly.
- Sharing one page of a notice, timetable or result in a family or class group.
- Posting a poster, event flyer or menu designed as a PDF on social media.
- Dropping a page from a report into a PowerPoint or Google Slides deck.
- Adding a document preview or certificate to a website or portfolio.
- Uploading to a form that accepts only JPG or PNG files.
Whole pages or just the pictures inside?
There are two quite different jobs that people describe as PDF to JPG, and IndiaDigital has a tool for each.
| You want | Use | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Each page as it looks, with text and layout | PDF to JPG and PNG | One image per page, rendered at the size you choose |
| The original photos placed in the PDF | Extract embedded images | The pictures themselves, without surrounding text |
PDF to JPG and PNG renders every page as an image, exactly as it appears in a PDF viewer. Use it for notices, posters, certificates and slides. Extract embedded images pulls out the original pictures that were placed in the document, which is useful when you want the product photos from a catalogue or the photographs from a report without screenshotting and cropping them.

Both formats are accepted almost everywhere, but they are good at different things.
| JPG | PNG | |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | Photos, posters with photographs, scanned pages | Text, tables, charts, diagrams, line art |
| File size | Usually smaller | Usually larger for photographic pages |
| Text sharpness | Can show slight blur or fuzz around letters | Crisp edges on text and lines |
| Compression | Lossy: some detail is discarded to save space | Lossless: no detail is discarded |
| Good for | WhatsApp, social media, email | Slides, websites, documents where text must stay sharp |
A simple rule: if the page is mostly a photograph, pick JPG. If it is mostly text, numbers or diagrams, pick PNG. For a mixed page such as an event poster with a photo and a date, JPG at a good resolution is usually fine for social media, while PNG is better when you will place it in a slide and project it.
Choosing the right resolution
Resolution decides how many pixels each page becomes. More pixels mean sharper detail when someone zooms in, but also bigger files that take longer to send.
- For chat apps and quick sharing, a moderate resolution is enough. Messaging apps often compress images again when you send them, so a very large image does not always look better on the other end.
- For social posts, choose a resolution that gives a clear image on a phone screen. Very high settings mainly increase file size.
- For slides and projectors, go a step higher so text stays sharp on a big screen.
- For printing or detailed zooming, such as maps, drawings or fine print, use the highest setting your device handles comfortably.
TipTest before converting a long document. Convert a single page at your chosen setting, open it on your phone, and zoom into the smallest text. If you can read it comfortably, use the same setting for the rest.
Watch outHigh resolutions on long PDFs produce many large images, which can be slow on an older phone because everything is processed on your device. If it struggles, convert fewer pages at a time or choose a lower resolution.
Common problems and how to fix them
| Problem | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Text looks fuzzy | JPG compression on a text-heavy page, or a low resolution | Use PNG, or a higher resolution |
| Images are very large | High resolution on a page full of photos | Use JPG and a moderate resolution |
| Too many images to share | Every page of a long PDF was converted | Share only the pages you need, or send the PDF itself |
| Scanned page looks grey or dull | The original scan was dark or low contrast | Rescan in better light; conversion cannot add detail that is not there |
| A photo inside the page looks soft | The page is rendered as a whole at the chosen size | Use Extract embedded images to get the original picture |
One point is worth stressing: converting a PDF to an image never makes it sharper than the source. If the PDF itself is a blurry scan, the images will be blurry too. A higher resolution simply gives you a larger picture of the same blur, so in that case the real fix is a better scan.
On the other hand, a PDF that was created digitally, such as a certificate exported from a website or a poster made in a design app, contains sharp text and shapes that can be rendered at almost any size. For these files, choosing a higher resolution genuinely gives crisper results, which is useful for printing or for placing a page on a large slide.
Going back the other way, and staying private
If you edit or annotate the images and need a PDF again, Images to PDF puts them back together in your chosen order; our guide on converting JPG to PDF covers the details. If you want to reuse the content of a page as editable text instead, a picture is the wrong route: use PDF to Word, as explained in our guide to converting PDF to editable Word. To turn a PDF deck into editable slides, see PDF to PowerPoint.
As with every IndiaDigital tool, the conversion happens in your browser. Your PDF is not uploaded, and there is no sign-up or watermark on the images you download.

How do I convert just one page of a PDF to JPG?
Convert the PDF and keep only the image of the page you need. If the PDF is very long, you can first split out the page you want, then convert that smaller file.
Should I choose JPG or PNG?
Choose JPG for photos and when file size matters, such as on WhatsApp. Choose PNG for pages that are mostly text, tables or diagrams, because it keeps edges sharp.
Why does my image look blurry on WhatsApp?
Messaging apps often compress images again when you send them as photos. Convert at a slightly higher resolution, or send the image as a document so the app does not compress it.
How can I get the original photos out of a PDF?
Use Extract embedded images. It pulls out the pictures placed in the PDF at their original quality, rather than rendering whole pages with text around them.
Can I convert the image back into a PDF later?
Yes. Use Images to PDF to combine one or more images into a PDF in the order you choose. The text will be a picture, though, so it will not be searchable unless you run OCR on it.
