Time, speed & distance
- Trains crossing poles, platforms and other trainskm/h × 5/18 = m/s. Distance = train length (+ platform or other train). Opposite directions: add speeds; same direction: subtract.
- Relative speed, meeting point and average speedTowards each other: time = distance ÷ (u + v). Chasing: gap ÷ (v − u). Round trip at u and v: average speed = 2uv/(u + v).
- Boats and streamsDownstream = b + s, upstream = b − s. Boat speed = (down + up)/2, stream speed = (down − up)/2.

Number system
- Unit digit of large powersUnit digits repeat in cycles of 4. Divide the power by 4 and use the remainder (remainder 0 → use 4).
- Divisibility rules: find the missing digit3/9: digit sum divisible by 3/9. 11: (sum of odd places − sum of even places) is 0 or a multiple of 11. 4: last two digits. 8: last three digits.
- RemaindersRemainder of a product = product of remainders (then take the remainder again). If N leaves r on dividing by D and d divides D, N ÷ d leaves r ÷ d’s remainder.
- HCF and LCM word problems“Together again / least number” → LCM. “Greatest length / largest size that fits exactly” → HCF.
