Unlimited Class 10 science practice with hints and worked steps: mirror and lens formulas, magnification, power of lenses, refractive index, Ohm’s law, series and parallel circuits, resistivity, electric power, units and electricity bills, heating effect, Fleming’s rules, balancing and classifying chemical reactions, pH, periodic trends, Mendel’s ratios and life processes.
Light: refraction
- Lens formula (image distance)1/v − 1/u = 1/f for thin lenses. u is negative; f is positive for a convex lens and negative for a concave lens.
- Power of a lens (dioptre)P = 1/f with f in metres (P = 100/f with f in cm). Unit: dioptre (D). Convex lens: positive power; concave lens: negative. Powers of lenses in contact add.
- Refractive index and speed of lightAbsolute refractive index n = c/v, with c = 3 × 10⁸ m/s. Relative index of medium 2 w.r.t. medium 1: n₂₁ = n₂/n₁ = v₁/v₂.

Electricity
- Ohm's law and electric chargeV = IR (volt = ampere × ohm). Charge Q = I × t (coulomb).
- Resistors in series and parallelSeries: R = R₁ + R₂ + … (same current). Parallel: 1/R = 1/R₁ + 1/R₂ + … (same voltage); for two, R = R₁R₂/(R₁ + R₂).
- Resistance of a wire (resistivity)R = ρl/A. Resistance increases with length, decreases with cross-sectional area, and depends on the material (ρ). Stretching a wire to n times its length makes R n² times.
- Electric power (P = VI = I²R = V²/R)P = VI = I²R = V²/R, in watts. Appliances on household supply (220 V) are connected in parallel.
- Electrical energy (kWh) and electricity billEnergy (kWh) = power (kW) × time (h). 1 kWh = 1 unit = 3.6 × 10⁶ J. Bill = units × rate.
- Heating effect of current (Joule’s law)Heat produced H = I²Rt (joule). Doubling the current makes the heat four times.
Magnetic effects of electric current
Chemical reactions and equations
- Balancing chemical equationsAtoms are neither created nor destroyed, so the number of atoms of each element must be equal on both sides. Change only the coefficients, never the subscripts.
- Types of chemical reactions and redoxCombination: A + B → AB. Decomposition: AB → A + B. Displacement: a more reactive element pushes out a less reactive one. Double displacement: ions are exchanged. Oxidation = gain of oxygen (or loss of hydrogen); reduction = loss of oxygen (or gain of hydrogen).
